This beautiful Julia Morgan house in the Berkeley hills was a gem - except for a 1920's notion that kitchens were the domain of servants. Furthermore, during a 1960's kitchen renovation, unsympathetic cabinets and materials had been installed and ceilings had been lowered "to get rid of wasted space."
The goal for this renovation was to bring the design strengths of the house into newly recaptured kitchen and casual dining spaces, the center for families in today's world.
The new kitchen is up-to-date, gracious, and - from personal experience - gourmet-friendly.
