ST. HILARY CHURCH RENOVATION
Saint Hilary Parish
Tiburon, California

The renovation of St. Hilary Church marked the first-stage implementation of a new Master Plan for St. Hilary Parish, as developed by Case Architects. It was the first major modification to the church since it was built in 1954. To bring in much needed light and ventilation, the roof structure was modified to install a continuous operable skylight, running the full length of the sanctuary ridge beam.

The sanctuary and altar floor spaces were modified to accommodate handicap access and to improve parishioners’ participation in communion, lively musical performances, weddings, children’s pageants, and other liturgical observances.

A newly sculpted font was placed at the rear of the sanctuary to better serve baptismal ceremonies. In order to relocate the font to this position, the church entry sequence was redesigned to provide a gracious procession into and out of the church.

Additional enhancements included painting the church interior a light color for more light reflectance, replacing the carpet, installing new direct and indirect light fixtures, and installing better sound and ventilation equipment.
